Looking to build a alfalfa bale feeder out of some extra plywood I have in the garage to put out in the field in southwest texas. The dimensions of the box will be 16x24x38 with an open bottom lined with cattle panel sitting down another 12-14 inches. The idea is to be able to place two bales in the box and allow the deer to deer to feed out of the bottom at will.

My question is would you place the four legs on the corners at an angle all facing different directions or would you place them in the corners at angles only facing two directions?

Anyone else tried making one of these? Pointers?

Legs should be positioned to give the maximum head or antler space. I would also drop the cattle panel down about 4-6" below the bottom of your box to have more hay exposed and easier for the deer to eat. Make sure you get your height correct also. I have made them out of 55 gallon drums and only put a piece of chain across the bottom of the barrel in a cross to hold the hay in also.

First Try! Stability Left and Right is a little off but for Version 1.0 I think its pretty good.

Any critics or suggestions for Version 1.1 next time?
