Always a hot topic these days considering the most recent law about hunting in certain municipalities was created due to complaints in Frisco and Collin County. So with Dove season coming up here is that bill again. SB 1742 REGULATION OF DISCHARGE OF WEAPON BY CERTAIN MUNICIPALITIES. Effective 6/19/2009. http://www.legis.state.tx.us/tlodocs/81R/billtext/html/SB01742F.htmHere is the Hunting in Frisco web page on the Frisco City website. http://www.friscotexas.gov/departments/police/Pages/HuntinginFrisco.aspxAnd Frisco has also put together a map of areas that could be legal for hunting. Of course trespassing laws apply. One still must have permission or leased hunting rights. But might be a good reference for those hunting in the area who are wanting to make sure they are on permitted property. Here is the most recent map online (as of this post) that was put together by Geographic Information Sevices. http://www.friscotexas.gov/departments/p...in%20Frisco.pdfAnd the Frisco City question and answer board. The current Police Chief in the past has been very receptive to answering specific questions related to hunting. http://qanda.ci.frisco.tx.us/discus/messages/1/1.htmlI am sure we will soon see lots of news and newspaper articles About Collin County hunting considering this areas Dove hunting history.

I just read this and it makes no sense.....
1000ft or more from a public property & more than 10acres for a shotgun, bow, bbgun
but if I have 50acre I can go out and blast away with my 30-06 inside the city limits of frisco as long as I am 1,000ft from public land, school blah blah blah.....WOW this is what happens when you have poloticians making hunting laws.

This is good info John. The Frisco Police will not come to you and ask if you have permission. It is not their job. They will get involved when you are shooting too close to a school or building. They could care less about you having "written permission". Now... if the land owner complains that people are on his property hunting and he did not give them permission... then they... or the GW will get involved and it would not be pretty.
Same as the McKinney Police... Last year I saw about 200 people jammed in a field shooting away. NOBODY had permission... let alone written permission to hunt there... I pulled in and asked myself. They said the police drove by every 30 min just to make sure people were not too close to the road. If the land owner would make a complaint... then it would be on.... but the land owner is a bank in CA and probably had no idea what was going on.

Hey buddy.... I'm not trying to start anything... I'm really not. It's not right for all the people to just jump on someone's property and start blasting away. The fact of the matter is that Frisco's Finest will not just approach dove hunters out of the blue and ask if they have written permission to hunt there UNLESS the land owner complains of trespassers. The GW will sure ask to see your license and check guns and that kind of stuff.... but it's not their job to see if a land owner is okay with people hunting there. Heck... I'm sure they don't even know who really owns the land in the first place and they are not going to go check the city records of every single piece of property and give a call to that owner saying... "Hey... do you know there are people out here?"
You are right in that you don't want to be the guy standing on private property with a gun and trespassing when the land owner calls the GW... it's not gonna be pretty. You could loose your guns and a lot more. You won't see me out there hunting.
Unfortunately, a lot of these pieces of land in the city that are over 10 acres are owned by corporate America or banks out of state and they would be choking at the insurance liability if they only knew what was going on.

Got a friend that lives and has hunted in Frisco. I've heard some horror stories from him about the number of people hunting. I haven't seen it first hand, just what he told me...

well my buddy works on a cattle ranch in frisco and its like 4500 ac. and we deal with trespassers all the time. and the cops check us out all the time when were spot lighting. when we dove hunt the cops dont bother us but the game wardens come out every day. we have shot at a few ppl that do not belong there and are not complying and leaving without tearing stuff up.so with that being said frisco pd do get involved with trespassers and they dont play around. and i looked at that map all that land that is red is there's so im warning any one thinking bout getting ballsy dont do it. trespassing anywhere is wrong and could end up bad. this is why farmers do not allow hunting on there ranches anymore cause some ppl thought they can just hop over the fence and hunt as they please.
this aint the wild west you cant clean up the streets with a gun, but sometimes it is needed..... got papers?

I had the same problem. I had been hunting my friends family property for YEARS with permission of course. 3 years ago my buddy brought his dad out with him (Again ok with my friends family). Next thing you know that guys dad was going out there without permission AND bringing his neighbors and there neighbors and there best friends friends. With that said the family then ended ALL hunting rights from the property. I don't blame them.
I now have to really fight to find a legal spot to hunt with the landowners permission. If anyone knows or has land that I could bring my son out to, I would really appreciate it.
