That's a lot of animal to hunt! Nilgai is definitely on my wish list.

What rifle/caliber is pictured?

Nice price Jesse. What's your success rate on these hunts? Do you have any references off the THF?

Our success has been very good on both my high fence and low fence hunts. I actually did have a member from this forum hunt with me by the name of Frank. He brought a group of 4 (including himself) out to hunt and we were able to put 7 on the ground in 2 1/2 days.

I honestly cannot remember what my hunter was shooting that day. But it did the job!

With experience hunting these lopes what calibers do you recommend or not? Also what ranges are the norm?

Re: South Texas Nilgai Hunts! - 10/18/17 01:16 AM

We have taken about 10 over last 3 years.
I initially and, for most part, still like (at minimum 0.300 Win Mag).
Recent couple I have taken were with:
Barnes VOR-TX Ammunition 338 Winchester Magnum 225 Grain

I like the Barnes 0.338 the best. Of course shot placement, etc etc..
Distances:
Free range 200-300 yards been my experience. I have no experience w high fence nilgai hunting. These are special animals and tough and dont give u a lot of time. Exciting hunting. Spot and stalk way to go. Dont try to chase em down with vehicle and ar-10 blasting.....they (and you) deserve better.

I can set you up to bow hunt. They do not come to bait but they will show up sooner or later to water. It would be tough bow hunting one of these guys but I think we can get it done.

Nice Animals. Hunted them many times on the Maripossa... Love that place. Tried bowhunting a few times over water, never had one get close enough. Killed many safari style and spot and stalk. You need to be quick on the draw! Those things can run surprisingly fast and far. Good prices on your package Jesse.

Thank you. And yes, while safari hunting you have to be quick on your draw or they are gone within a couple seconds. Very fun animals to hunt though! Gotta love the challenge!

Definitly my favorite hunting, can be fast paced one minute and boring the next, but you never know what you will see and you get to see a lot of pretty country.
