Will Pricing be Affected by the Drop in Oil?

I was getting ready to plan a fall 2015 hunt but might wait and see what the drop in oil does to pricing. A lot of hunts have been paid for by oil dollars, as those dollars get scarce, will it affect the pricing of exotic hunts? What kinds of hunts will be affected? I'm guessing that Super Exotics are unaffected, Common Exotics have more last minute bargins, some of the more exclusive ranches become more compeitive, but most prices stay stable. I'd like to have some of your opinions.

I see supply growing demand shrinking for sure. But some ranches bought their animals when prices were kind of high so I don't see them taking a loss on their investment. They will ride out the roller coaster and wait for oil prices to go back up.
Now if auction prices go down then I can see ranches lowering their prices.

I would think and I have known to be wrong the only thing it might effect is the ear tag WT.

Prices for me have gotten ridiculous in the most part.

I'm just thankful I have the access to more private ranches where prices pretty much remain pre-2011 and that I shot some of my rare stuff before the oil boom all started.

But Axis are going ridiculous....I saw does the other day going for 1500 on FB!



If it was a perfect world, then everything would go back to pre-2011 prices.

I'm not looking to take advantage of folks with the game but have someone keeping eye out for good black buck with decent price. The LO's will still have to feed and maintain and industry slow down may effect the extra cash folks had to hunt. There could be ripple effect all the way down to them.

Advertised prices and the "real" prices that some animal actually was sold for many times are significantly different!! Baker

Our axis prices will hopefully drop. But I don't plan on doing many axis hunts in 2015. I'm thinking about letting some more of my 4-5 year old axis bucks get another year. Our hunts are still booking extremely well with only 23 open weekends left for the year. We are getting rid of fallow and red deer hunts and those were some of the more expensive ones for me. If axis prices drop, I will adjust a little for new bookings if I have to do some hunts, but as it is right now, no. They would have to drop more than $500 by May for that to happen for me to make a price adjustment and at the moment I may book 3 more axis hunts for 2015. I'm not planning on purchasing. This will be more of a management year for us than for trophy hunts.

Anyone selling axis does for $1500 is ripping people off and should be exposed!

I disagree. He is a hell of a salesman and I would like to hire him to sell my Ibex. Seriously I doubt he sold any at that price.

he didn't. he was on facebook and was selling his axis doe hunts for $1500. about 20 people called him on it and he alleged he bought these doe for $1200-1300 each at huntsville.

Wouldn't surprise me to see some cancellations as the fit hits the shan from oil price instability.

There will be great deals but its hard to say what type of animals it will be. I have heard of tons of cancellations from exotic ranches to African safaris.

Its going to be a little slower on exotics, but my whitetail sales have tripled. I think the oil production even though is lower priced , they will still make money. I have one client that has major company, tell me the price has to go below $21 a barrel for them to loose money. My lord they were raking it in at over 100. They tell me it's just a matter of time and it will be back high again. That's not good for our prices on gas, I am liking these low prices.

Bottom line is it is going to affect most people and businesses in the US. Lower oil prices not only mean lower gas prices but it also means reduction in drilling and all related services. This impacts manufacturing and other chemical production so there will likely be layoffs in more areas than just the oilfield. As the oil prices stay down their value of oil reserves is reduced which means they cannot borrow as much money to drill and operate at the higher levels. Yes, it means lower profits for the oil companies but it also impacts the rest of the economy in other ways.

It wouldn't surprise me to see things relatively unchanged for a while. What I don't see is prices increasing. I'm planning on waiting a few months to see how things work out. I'm thinking that it'll be summer before the full effects start showing up, if I wait until then, the worst case will be I pay the same.

Living anywhere near houston low gas prices hurt our economy for the people who actually work, as for all the people on welfare they love it.

Went toDSC last weekend. If the oil price crash affected the cost of exotics/hunts it sure wan't evident by the pricing there.

At current gas prices I'll save enough to cover my motel costs on the drive from MN to TX and back. I can't do the 20hr drive in one shot like I used to. So thats another variable people whose jobs aren't connected to the Oil Patch will have more disposable income.

If we can keep oil below $50 for a year, lots of prices will start falling. Oil below $35 for a year and things will definitely change. What lots of people don't understand is the transfer of wealth that is starting to happen from the baby boomers that made it rich. They are starting to die off and their heirs are getting the money. 2nd generation wealth flows more easily than first generation! They got rich because they didn't spend freely....their heirs will probably spend more freely. This, could help prop up prices on a lot of things for the next 2 decades. Ok, my economics lesson is over.....
