Jap. Sika

Jap. Sika - 12/01/14 06:37 PM

Did a last minute hunt at WRS on Friday with the wife and my 6 year old son. This was his first hunt were he actually got to see an animal taken. We plan to get him hunting in the next few years, after not connecting with an axis doe at a low fence place, we were after either an Axis doe or one of there special Jap. Sikas whatever presented itself. We were unable to get a shot on the Axis as they were wild and wooly but eventually put a a stalk on this nice Sika, He was a 3x4, there were some 4x4's in the other pasture but we could not get a shot on them. Once again WRS come through and I still think its one of the best values for your $ around for exotic hunting.

Sika deer are definitely on my list and it looks like you got a really nice one. Congratulations!!!

What does WRS stand for?

How much was the hunt and was it the same price for any sika? or would it have cost more to shoot a 4x4?

It ate really good Steve. It was some of the best venison we've eaten, better than axis to me personally. Only recently surpassed by the fallow I shot in October.

That is great that they were able to be there. My wife and 6 year old son were with me in Utah in October when I killed my bull. Son thought it was great. He was messing with some range finders and had given me a range to a location close tho where the bull came out. He will be hunting soon I hope.

That's a nice Sika. We had a lot of them on the old ranch in Blanco County. It was always fun to listen to them bugle, or whistle, off in the canyons while on stand. We took several about that size. And yes, they eat really good!

Sika is one of my favorite to eat. I personally have shot 4 over many years with Walter, including a monster in 2008. Congrats on a beautiful Sika and let us know if there is anything else we can do for you.
