Merriam turkeys in Texas ???? - 03/24/16 07:56 PM
I just read an email from OutdoorHub listing the 10 best turkey hunting states. It listed Texas as one and also stated that there were Merriam turkeys in Texas. Does anyone know if this is true and if so what part of the state has them ?

I've heard of a ranch in the Guadalupe Mountains in far west Texas that has a few.

Go to this website. It gives a distribution chart of the 4 turkey species in Texas. A lot of good info in it too.

Yep...pretty good info. If you're going to consider the Merriam's/Rio cross a 4 specie's of turkey there are also area's where Rio's and Easterns range overlaps and there are hybrids. Grayson County has a lot of Rio/Eastern hybrids and now western Anderson County where both easterns and rios where released at Gus Engling WMA in the last 2 years.
