That's my plan...I was supposed to go to New Mexico this spring but since my wife and I are expecting our first child in about a month I think I'll put it off a couple of years. I killed my first rio on public land years ago and have been fortunate to take and eastern on public land the past two springs. My buddy has killed Merriam's in NM and we were supposed to guide in that area for some other hunters this spring, so we know it will be more beneficial going there than pay a fortune for a guided hunt. I happen to know of a couple of landowners in Florida who I can get access to hunt Osceola, so I may not have to public land hunt there, but like Merriams hunt that will also be put off a year or two. Either way I love turkey hunting public land as long as the birds are there...
I am working on a slam myself. I am going to try to get all the subspecies on public land. So far I just have Rios and eastern. It kinda makes it more fun for me to get all the subspecies unguided on public. The Merriam in New Mexico is next.
