Hill County - 04/20/15 06:53 PM

I've been out 4 times this year and have yet to hear any gobbling. Had one hen come through at about 50 yards. Anybody else having luck down there?

Called in a few so far in Hill county. Not seeing anything like last year though. Not hearing anything like last year either.

Easter weekend my brother called in quite a few with his son. The weekend before that is when it really seemed to turn on. My son and I called in 6 different longbeards in an hour and a half and they were all fired up. I haven't been out since but hoping to go this weekend.

I'm hoping to get down there in the next week or so. Hopefully things will change from the last few trips.

It has been slow around Menard. I have seen handful of turkeys, but only a few will strut or gobble.
I heard more gobbling during deer season than I have during spring turkey season.
I am going to give it another try this weekend.

Spent the last 5 days in real county. Birds were acting very screwy. And very quite. Had more responses during the heat of the day than any other time. But they will not commit to a call. They sounded like they never budged an inch even after talking with them for 20 mins then silence. On game cam they travel by my feeders at all diffrent times of day only one pic if a strutting long beard and the hens wernt even intrested.
Il be back out this weekend hope to get it done.. Saw them like crazy the 2 days before season opener. Lol go figure....

I was north of Menard early last week and heard birds everywhere. At one time I counted at least 10 different gobbles in all directions. BUT, about half of those were off my place. My dad shot two in one hunt and he was on the other side of the ranch. He said they came in hot and heavy.

I'm going out to Rocksprings this weekend, so I'll see how they are out there. About three weeks ago they seemed to be henned up still out there.

Heading out Friday and Saturday, any updates on bird activity?

I've called in two birds to the gun in the last couple weeks, both right around 1pm. The most recent one was on the 25th and he only gobbled twice: once at about 150 yards out and the second time about 20 yards before he took a load of #5 to the head. This is out in Lampasas County, by the way.

Birds are still receptive in Edwards county. Give it an hour before moving. Some are coming in quiet.

Had a bird gobble once around 8:45 this morning, that was it. Didn't hear or see anything the rest of the day.
