Wore me out!!! - 04/20/15 01:49 PM
I went out on Sunday morning to work the Thunder Chickens once again. I set my decoys in front of a bow blind I set up to arrow a turkey. I got the birds fired up and had three coming but they turned back halfway in to my set. I could tell that they were 'henned up' and the bow would have to wait. Grabbed the shotgun and headed off to find some action. On the way back towards the truck I was walking across a field when I heard a gobble so I ran for the trees so I could sneak closer to him and start working him. I set out decoys and started calling. The Tom sounded like he was still 500 yards away and wasn't coming any closer so I decided to close some more distance and set up again. After 10 minutes or so I heard some hens talking and threw out some hen yelps and got an immediate gobble. Within a couple of minutes I had two long beards walking down the road headed for my decoys. This one gave me the best shot so I took it.
He had a 10 1/2" beard and 1 1/4" spurs. He weighed 21.4 lbs on my digital scale.
