2nd year of harvest of our 2 Texas Subspecies - Rio and Eastern - 04/18/15 08:39 PM
Second year in a row I was blessed to take subspecies of turkey we have here in Texas. Started out in Junction a few weeks back when I took a great rio that I harvested only 2 hours after arriving at the 900 acre ranch our chapter hunts annually. He weighed in at 20 lbs, had an 11 inch beard and 1 inch spurs.
Then opening day of east TX season God blessed me to take another great eastern gobbler on public land in the same area as last year. Had 2 birds come in...scared the crap out of us as loud as the gobble was that came through the trees. A few minutes later I took the dominant bird out of the two. He was 22lbs, 10 inch beard, and 1 1/4 spurs.
Now I guess I'm done for the season, but I'm surely thankful for two birds I was able to harvest and thankful for every opportunity that I had to chase birds this year. Now looking forward the the next....
