Same to you Gman. Hoping to make it out tomorrow myself. Got on a couple of new leases this year. If nothing else, tomorrow will be a little recon work.

I still hate you...

What happened with the Eastern you were after? Can't believe you couldn't get them in range of those thermo-nuclear loads you sling out of that turkey thumper of yours.. smile

Colt and I are headed down after lunch today.

Don't hate the playa SM. Hate the game! roflmao

Easterns just didn't happen. We hunted the base. 260K acres was a little overwhelming, but we saw birds and found sign. By that time we had come off our Osceola high and just wanted to get home. The birds in MS weren't doing their thing yet, and it was cold/rainy. So, I came back to TX.

Hoping I can get my Rio this weekend then focus on an Eastern the rest of April. If I can close the deal, I'm headed after the Merriam in May.

Good luck to you and the boy! up

Saw a few birds this evening so they are here. Going to try to get my 10 year old his first. Shot his new 20 ga for the first time tonight and was good at 30 yards. Good luck!

Good looking Toms Pitt! I have been trying to break loose and hit them in Colorado for 5 darn years and always get side tracked.

Despite seeing more turkeys than ever could not get them to commit and just hang up. Giving it a try in the morning. A tom busted us tonight and high tailed it. Seen all toms and hens no Jakes. I need them to gobble before coming in.

I could only get out Saturday AM and screwed the pooch on a bird. All the birds off the roost were henned up. Finally got on a bird gobbling about 9:30. He came in very cautious by himself. He never really gobbled answering me, but would gobble to get me to call where he could keep me located. He got to 40 yards which is plenty close enough for me to kill him. He turned to walk off, and I plain missed. Still scratching my head on that one.

Henned up indeed! Saturday AM hunt was tough but got one bird to play the game and SM Jr. put some of that BWho TSS to work at 40 yards. Afternoon/Evening had two birds coming from a LONG way off when the thunderstorms rolled in fast and had us running for cover. Sunday they were all shut mouthed with the overcast rainy weather.

BWho miss????? Is the world coming to an end?!?!????

To trudge: the slow, weary, depressing yet determined walk of a man who turkey's have kicked around so much he has nothing left in life except the impulse to simply trudge onward to find the next gobbling yard bird. grin

Re: Good Luck North Zone hunters - 04/07/15 01:18 AM

Got in pop up today right after 8 and before we could get a shell In gun two toms and two hens showed up heading to feeder. They heard the shell going in chamber. Toms stuck around and my boy had a little window and missed just over 30 yards. It is his first time shooting. They walk off not too scared. We wait and he wants to check for feathers and while out of blind more turkey walk right past it. We get back in and then had turkeys all over us for two hours. We played back and forth with the hens and they came to the call but the toms and jakes just strutted out of range teasing us. Very little gobbling. They are henned up in Montague. Saw more driving out so next weekend hopefully I can get him one. I need it within 30 yards for him otherwise I could be tagged out.
