Hunting rabbits is a great and inexpensive way to get introduced to public land hunting. A lot of the WMAs allow rabbit hunting during dove/duck/quail seasons, and the big WMAs allow rabbit hunting year-round. You need the annual public hunting permit.

Have you taken them to shoot skeet? Id start there and see how they do.

There was a guy offering rabbit hunts in waller right after deer season. Maybe take them on a squirrel hunt

Public land Gum Slough east of Houston has rabbits and squirrels (shotgun) and it's archery only for hogs. They also told me I couldn't take my dog but I didn't see it on the sign.
