Nice Boar - 01/05/16 03:43 PM

Took my son and buddy hunting last Saturday evening and got him a nice boar. We were thinking 350-400 pounds.

Going to be a sweet Euro mount.

Congrats on taking a great hog! Where do you hunt? Our place in Lee county is infested with hogs, but I've never seen one that big. I shot 40 hogs last year and not one had cutters like that one. If you get a euro mount done, be sure to post a pic.

Thanks TexasKC. Will do. We hunt about 2 hours northwest of the MetroMess. I had been seeing a couple of boars about this size in our wheat fields and he just happened to be out in the field on the way to our deer blind. Stocked him for about 300 yards and my buddy made a nice 250 yard shot. This was all at 5pm last Saturday.

We usually get 2-3 big boars that come out of the Brazos river bottom and reside on our property every year. We usually cull a few each year to let new boars move in. This one is in our top 5 for sure and my buddy is pretty pumped.

Sounds like y'all had a great hunt. I've learned to hate hogs after watching them tear up my pastures time and time again.

Yes and the big boars will tear you up if you are not careful!

Dang I wish I would have thought of that. We had a scale that goes to 300# mainly for deer and it jumped to 300# in a heartbeat and stuck. We already removed the head and took straps out.

Definitely makes you think about walking in the dark on the way to and from the deer blind.

He was nice one for sure. My buddy is 5' 11" 220# and sitting on a slope higher than the pig and he is right against it so no trick photography. I'm curious if I would have taken the photo on level ground how much we would see of my son and buddy.

So back pack for grillen & chillen... See were a lot of hog hunters use the tape meathod... 2cents Tip If ya want ta get better pic of your buddy & son by hog for conparrison... Try taking pic standing up... Posted 2 pics of same hog & AR... One with AR laying by the back the other at feet... Angle makes differents... i got cheap posts... flag

Other than backstraps, when a pig gets 300#+ do yall take out any other meat? My buddy wanted to take out the hams but I told him the meat may be a little "rough".
