I will be heading to Canada in May for my first black bear hunt. Do any of you have experience bear hunting and will the 308 work? The shots are under a hundred yards. I considered taking my 7mag, but thought it may be over kill. Thanks

Use a good quality bullet and you'll be fine.

Plenty of Gun!

Any decent shot...should put down a Black Bear.

IMO, they do not seem to be tenacious of life, though I am sure there are exceptions.

You should be fine. Make a good shot. 308 should be more than enough.

my fist bear was taken with a 30-30 it went about 30yrs and dropped weighed in just under 250 2nd one was the same size and it was taken with a 270 and about the same size. my 3rd was with my car in New york it totaled my car bet the frame. I lived in a small town of Eatonville Washington State till i was 16 then moved permitly to New York with my dad Eatonville is in the Foot hills of Mt Rainier. when the snow level would drop the bears and cougars would come in to the out secrets of town and take dogs and get in the garbage If you have never hunted them before they are really fast when they want to be a 308 is more then enough to put one down
