diesel & corn

some hunters in my area dig a hole with posthole diggers approximately 3 ft. deep, pour in dried corn until hole is nearly full, pour diesel over the corn & cover the hole with a big rock.

How much diesel is normally poured over the corn??? Too much develops an environmental problem, but I am told this baiting type is better than anyone else has recommended.

I have used soured grain, pecans, acorns & corn in various combinations but have no luck getting a hog over the bait station because until recently I have not been set up for night hunting.

I am nearly crippled and must use a walker or my ATV for hog hunting. Is 50-75 yards a good distance to set up?

I've tried lots of different mixes. I have not found anything reliable for hunting today, tonight, or this weekend...you need to set up and establish the bait station before hand.

The word from people using diesel on the corn is that it keeps the racoons and deer from eating it, thus theoretically making it last longer. I tried it for a short time and decided it was not making a big difference.

I have personally seen very reliable results with just plain corn in a pig pipe. These can hold them for hours at a time. They usually need refilling every three or four days if the site is really active. They will also make a lot of noise working the pipe, so you do not have to be actively watching all the time.

I have found that straight corn works as good as any other magical concoction. The only time that I've added diesel to corn is when baiting a trap. Deer and racoons will generally leave it alone,so nothing unwanted enters the trap. It doesn't take much.

Back in East Texas, we just hunted telephone poles. Hogs will hit them regular, just like a buck to his scrape.

Hogs use the diesel help remove bugs off them. If you mix it with corn they'll start rolling in it before eating.

The best way to use diesel is to make a rub post soaked in diesel. Just find an old rug, towel and rap it around a tree or post, then add diesel. Also put a little diesel into a spray bottle and use this for your cover scent.

Corn by itself is the best Hog bait.

Hogs do not like change, keep your bait stations full weather that is a feeder, hole or, pig pipe.

Hogs like to rub on stuff because they all have ticks. The diesel thing works as a rub but so does cedar.

Don't use diesel as a cover sent it will scare off the deer, turkey and, just about everything else. It is also hard to get out of your hunting cloths or blind.

Just use corn and cedar.

Diesel ain't going to scare any more deer off than the hogs will. I have buddies that use diesel/corn mix and they still get pics of deer eating it. I just use straight corn and diesel rubs.

Diesel will attract more hogs than cedar will any day of the week.

I have had deer enter pig traps with straight corn. Not once with dieseled corn

I have got hundreds of game cam pics of deer scarfing down corn soaked in diesel that was intended as hog bait. Does not even phase them.

Diesel converted ta gas, tough on the O-zone... is diesel good for the intestans of a deer ? Food for thought.... Tis why i use plain ol deer corn

If diesel is so wonder for ATTRACTING hogs, then you don't need to put it on the corn. Just spray some around the base of some trees and you should be good to go.

The only problem is that diesel isn't an attractant to hogs. It may keep other animals away, but it isn't some sort of target-specific attractant that folks make it out to be. If it was, we would all be using it.

Diesel is an attractant and does not keep other animals away. It may slow them down from eating as much, that's it.

Plus I'm not talking about pouring out five gallons for them to drink. Maybe a quart or 2 is all you need in a spray bottle.

I've never had hogs be more attracted to corn with diesel than plain corn. Diesel just adds an expense and mess. As with any commercial attractant, the thing they do best is take money out of your pocket and put it in someone elses. Just my experience.

You are associating creosote with diesel? Yep, seen rubbed poles. Seen ignored poles next to the rubbed ones. Never seen a hog try to eat a telephone pole. Never seen hogs rub on diesel corn.

I started doing this, good Lord, about 30 years ago. The only thing the diesel does, as far as I've noticed and ever used it for, is keep cattle off the corn, and even then only if they know there's something better to eat somewhere else. Only about a cup of diesel poured over the top of the corn is plenty. The best pig attractant I've found to pour over the corn is George Dickel sour mash whiskey. It smells like soured corn right out of the bottle. Again, just about a cup is plenty, maybe two. Don't get it on your clothes, it smells worse than diesel, is harder to wash off, and is probably more flammable.
