Quote:
When a couple out on their ranch in Morgan Hill, California, saw a wild pig roaming the brush, they decided to shoot it and take it home for meat. After transporting the pig back home and draining its blood, the pair cut open the pig ready to skin and portion it, only to find this wild hog was hiding something quite unusual below the surface.

One of the comments I saw on http://www.outdoorhub.com/news/2015/09/10/photos-wild-pig-blue-fat-found-california/

Quote:
California has been trying to decrease wild pig population since 2003. This could be a transgenic wild pig released with a blue protein marker to track the ones that cannot reproduce. “…many state and national parks in California have initiated programs to control wild pigs to protect natural resources. […]efforts directed at wild pigs can improve the prospects for oak seedling survival in California oak woodlands. ” http://www.fs.fed.us/…/psw_gtr217/psw_gtr217_267.pdf

It is likely the poison, but possibly "blue pork syndrome" as well, first observed in Uganda in 1998.

It's called the porcine-photoshop disease.

poisonous bait to control feral hog populations (I believe the active ingredient was the anticoagulant Warfarin). The feed had something that turns adipose tissue (fat) blue so hunters won't eat it after the hog had ingested the poisonous bait.

The USDA meat inspector spilled his bottle of ink.
