New 6.8 got the job done - 03/31/15 04:16 AM
I purchased a 6.8 upper/lower from PSA ($600.00 total) and got to break it in tonight. I put my Sightmark Photon 3.5x on the gun and picked up some a Hornady 120 grain SSTs based on Texaslawman's feedback. I had a lone sow come in at 8:30, but she bypassed my feeder and walked towards me. After being spooked twice and running off she finally gave me a head on shot. Not my favorite by any stretch, but she was too skiddish and I didn't want her to run off again.
The shot entered just below her right eye, her front legs went stiff and she face planted. After she hit the ground there wasn't a single leg kick, twitch or squeal. When I walked up to her it was immediately clear she had brainy matter, and blood oozing from her ears. I'm no expert on terminal ballistics, but I'm guessing the round scrambled her brain. I know it's just one dead pig, but the round and gun performed very well.
I'm guessing she weighed somewhere between 140-160 pounds.
