Having a bit more luck with coyote hunting lately - 03/28/15 01:41 AM
seemed like it was forever that I couldn't find a coyote. I knew there's no way I shot them all. Happily, in the last week I've shot a few. They were all female. Is that a coincidence, or are the females more on the move at this time of year?
I've mentioned before that shooting rarely runs the deer off. Same thing this afternoon. Had the coyote at 200 yards and 4 deer at 400ish. Dropped the coyote with my loud old 220 and the deer just looked up from eating grass.
And...lately I've been using the Sierra 55 grain boat tail Gameking after years of using the Nosler 55 gr Ballistic Tip. The thought was that the Sierra would hold up better on pigs. Well, I can't find a pig, but the bullet exit on coyotes seems to be smaller than what I saw with the Nosler. Not that this is a careful scientific experiment, but I am thinking that the Sierra might be holding together better than the Ballistic Tip.
