Skunks!

Skunks! - 02/28/15 12:12 AM

We recently have had a skunk problem. We live in the country on a few acres and have had 3 skunks killed by our outside dogs in the yard lately. It is getting out of hand. I killed 8 skunks last year around the property all during the day. Is there any special way to wipe out as many as possible in a few hunts? Spot light at night? Or something different? Thanks

We are fixing to get into the worst part of the year for them. Shoot them when you see them or you can trap them if you're man enough. I'm not man enough to trap them.

Don't leave and dog or cat food out, seems to draw them in.

Just keep shooting. I read somewhere that there's a. 50/50 chance they carry rabies. I've killed a couple too. Good luck

Uh, from recent personal experience, check wind direction before you shoot.

I shot one last week with some skin issue, it's been years since I've seen a human case of lepercy but that's what it reminded me off.

I wonder if their skin conditions are contagious In the animal kingdom...

roflmao The best way I have learned is to put the dogs up, make a pot of coffee, put cat food out in different locations, and shoot them at night from a distance. Place food in illuminated areas or use night vision. Hit them on a regular basis especially this time of the year. No skunk trapping for me.

Well looks like tomorrow night is cat food cans in the pasture and a spot light. Currently the outside dogs have one trapped in the shed under and old bench. The shed is massive and filled with my fiances parents crap.

i put out coon hand traps to contain the coons

those traps also catch skunks

bait with canned tuna/chicken of the sea/the ones in oil

so far the easiest method

Well since you're not married yet probly shouldn't shoot one in the shed. Save that for after you have been married for a few years. You will figure out what I mean later. grin J/K of course...

I enjoy killing skunks. Got nailed by one as a kid and ever since everyone I can kill I do. Got this one the other day.

It is just one of those animals that god put on this earth to test us. It is good for nothing.

You're forgetting what great hats they make. I recall Moe being very complimentary of the one Curly had. grin

I'm in McKinney right by the sheriffs department and we've got one under the shed. He sprayed something the other night and it woke me up from a dead sleep it was so bad. I guess I know how well my house is insulated now! Still smelled like a skunk inside the house 3 days later. I'll be trapping tomorrow, neighbors arent too keen on dispensing lead in the back yard.

they are in the breeding season right now. I've been catching them a lot lately. the essence is worth about $10 an ounce from what I'm told. but its not worth the hell you'll get from the wife, trying to harvest that….

i caught one 2 weeks ago, it pissed all over my dog proof coon trap when i shot him…its all still there…he shot that yellow stuff 9 feet in distance. i never knew they could throw it that far.

I would rather pay the $1 per buckshot vs getting paid the $10 per once to smell like that. There is something else that smells similar that pays way more per once but im staying away from that also. The shotgun is loaded by the door and will do some nightly runs for awhile.
