Crazy weather

Crazy weather - 02/21/18 02:22 PM

Hunting the last 2weeks of the season. Hunted Big Lake lease Sunday and Monday morning then drove to Kent county lease. Rested dogs yesterday. 80 degrees yesterday, front start blowing in at 1pm. Woke up to thunder, lightning, sleet and freezing rain this mornin. 24 degree and howling wind.

If you only shoot birds that will die in next 4 weeks go for it otherwise but fun up and work dogs with pistol

Twenty years ago hinted after 6” snow and found lots of birds cameback two weeks latter and that part of ranch had significantly less birds.
No other reason than death weather loss due to disturbing in very nasty weather

Saw a large covey at the pens by camp this afternoon.

Probably Dustin loading up his feeder by the yellow house, was a covey using it last season.

They were feeding inside the pens.

I had to help load and hoist that dang feeder last Saturday, he let the rope go to the top the tree. I stood on top of my mule, grabbed the rope and jumped. I probably looked like Tarzan.......

It was raining this morning so my hunt consisted of throwing a dog out on the road and following her with the truck. I only got out to shoot when she pointed. They could smell bird a long way this morning and I still ended up soaked to the thighs and didn’t chase any singles. Still some nice sized coveys for the last weekend.
