I have a 14 month old female just coming into her first cycle. She's not vocal, no barking for no reason etc. But as soon as she started to swell good she started howling (never howled before). At first it was in the evening and living in the county we have some coyotes around. But now any time of day, not all the time but twice a day or more she just sticks her head out of the house and howls or walks around the pen and howls. Is it hormones? Does she know the end is coming? Is she pi$$ed about something? Or just letting the guys know she's available? Never had one howl like this during a heat cycle.

Our "Star" howls randomly when she is in heat. Her mom doesn't / never has.

She's a hoot, sometimes while out in the pen and sometimes she just sticks her head out of her house and howls. I think she has some coyote in her.
