Nice hunt west of Abilene

Had a nice two day hunt west of Abilene last weekend. About 50/50 blues and bobs. Coveys not as big as last year, got into about 20 coveys both days. Good dog work including staying with running blues, finding wounded runners etc, surprising based on how dry/dusty it is out there. Getting time where we need some rain for next years crop.

Blues were normal blues, better be quick and be ok with forty yard shots. I carried about 10 high brass #6 in my pants pocket on each turn and when a covey flush wild I would switch over.

I had similar results a few years ago with a friend who had a leases on the Nail ranch. It's somewhere west of Abalene.

The kid looked as if he was having a blast.

That's my buddy's son from Colorado 7 year old and he was up at 6am asking when are we leaving both mornings. Smiled the whole time. We had two nine year old girls on our pheasant hunting trip last month, joked that the pheasant camp will never be the same.

Kind of fun to be around young folks that dont have 12 aches and pains, always positive, and everything is new.

Most likely plowed for fire breaks, we are under fire bans.

It's by Albany. I used to hunt it, the Stasney Cook and the Matthews Lambshead. Best Quail hunting around back in the 80-mid 90's. Who was your friend Bill?

His name is Ron Paschall. I Hunted with him for years.

Don't guess I ever met him but I might have. Memory is becoming fun the older I get.

We used to hunt the Bradford place, it was next to the Nail.
Many good hunts over there.
