Nice Shoot

What part of the state. Hunted NNW of Stuttgart a few days last week. Not many birds in that area while we were there.

We scouted and hunted for 4 days between Little Rock, over to Carlisle and down towards Stuttgart (that general area). I doubt we saw 50,000 the whole time we were in AR. If you have some video to share, i would love to see it. Cody Malone, do you run a guide service? If so, how do i look them up? Might have to schedule a trip with you next year.

What do I get when I post videos? Y'all should know when I speak I speak the truth lol

Follow me on Facebook bc posting videos here takes to much time

We have killed two banded snows, seen 4-5 more in feeds and saw a yellow neck collar

I do run a service here and just leased 80,000 acres for the next two years with a 5 year extension option. We are buying a house and turning in into a guide house and will hopefully have it set up for some clients to stay in too the last part is a maybe though bc I need down time after 18 hour days

Realistically probably will take 5 feeds to get to 400k, from what I have seen there are 2.5-3million birds in my area but I also have access to 100-110k acres

That is awesome. I am skipping this years reign of terror on the geese.
But to have 1000's of geese spinning over you has to be seen in person to realize how spectacular it really is.
I tried filming and it just doen't blow you away like being there.
Keep after them monsters.

I was just going to let it go because I didn’t feel like arguing back and forth with anyone but the only video that had a number on it, the first video that says 60,000-70,000 is not even close to that number, in my opinion. Unless what looks like water WAY off in the background is actually geese then I guess it could be 70,000. I’ve seen big feeds before, tons of birds in one area, and if what is just upclose in that wheat field is supposedly 70,000 geese then I say that it’s bs

Also I have nothing against Cody at all. It looks like he is a great guide who hammers the birds and busts his [censored] for his clients. I’d say all this to my best friend if he told me that was 70,000 geese and sent me the video. Again I wasn’t going to say anything but if you insist on my opinion then there it is. cheers

I wasn’t hating. I just don’t believe one person had 1/10 of the entire mid continent population of light geese in 4 fields. I’m waiting for the pictures and videos and will gladly eat crow if they show a field with what appears to be 100,000 geese in it. up

If you think there is only a few million snows in the us then you should realize your wrong. Squaw creek in Missouri winters 2-2.5 million and that's just one refuge. I'm not sure how long it's been since you chased snows but the population had absolutely exploded, hence the long laxed conservation season. Between my operation, Tony Vandemore, Northernsky and third coast we have killed 30-40k this month in this area alone.

I’m just going off the bird counts. That’s not just some number I made up. confused2

Also, very few snow geese WINTER at Squaw Creek compared to what passes through each spring. I’ve tracked Squaw Creek pretty closely the last 7 or 8 years around this time and not once do I recall them reporting over 1.2 million birds at any one time. I don’t doubt the 1.2 million number during their peak 2 or 3 days in the spring migration. It is a 3400 acre refuge. I’m not sure what draws the snow geese there but they like it. I’m still waiting on the pictures and videos so I can light my grill and eat crow grill

4 years ago Squaw was 99% ice and had 2.1 million if my memory serves me correctly. I had a day off and went and took a few thousand photos and ended up with 9 band pics of snows and 3 canadas along with several trumpeter swans

And tomthe original topic of 4 100,000 bird feeds, even if they are 75/80k feeds who cares as it's ALOT of geese and we have averaged 52 geese per day with 3-4 guns and seen 200-300,000 birds per day, That's pretty dang good

I don't even believe 75-80,000 bird feeds, or at least 4 of them at one time in one area. Also, if you are seeing 200-300,000 geese every single day and are only averaging 52, even with only 4 guns, you are doing something wrong. Cody we don't know each other and I am still considering giving your Arkansas hunt a whorl. I must ask if this is a typo or what. According to your math all four outfitters would have to average 333 birds every day for 30 days straight to hit 40,000 in a month. I have been chasing the white devils for a long long time, had lots and lots of 50, 60 up to 80 bird shoots. Only once hit over 100. The only reason that happened is because it was 500 acres of winter wheat they guarded for 2 weeks, 1500 sillo socks and full bodies and some of the best shooters I have ever met. All the conditions lined up. I am hoping your telling me this is a typo.

Swirling winds have been a huge problem but I finally got a spread that worked nearly everyday and when the wind would shift we could make a 10 minute adjustment and have em locked up in our faces opposed to over our shoulders or pass shooting. I never said we had 200k in the decoys. I hunt active feeds very near or on flyways

I'm running a 600-1000 piece spread with a custom hand built 6 speaker call system. The number of decoys used was heavily influenced by access to the X in the field. If we could drive my mule to the spread we set it all. If we had to walk things in we ran just socks

Re: 139 Down! - 03/02/18 08:28 PM

When you have a scout who drives several hundred miles a day, a huge network of farmers who hate geese being in their fields and have ice north and flooding south birds stack up!

The shooting wasn't great most days as most clients where running unplugged guns with no exstensions and they strggled killing the 6-24 packs that where locked up 15' over the deeks because they where in aww of the sheer numbers of birds and to worried about trying to kill a lot instead of 1-2 out of each volley.

80 clients I had left highly satisfied with my operation and all are rebooking again next year because they saw the work we put in to get the job done and the opinions and thoughts of my clients are all that matter to me since they pay my bills and make my business a success.

Check out Tony Vandemores facebook page. He has a video of several days hunts in AR. There,s some groups of snows on it that look like 40K or more. Biggest feeds I,ve personally seen were probably 25-30K in the 80,s and 90,s in TX. Seen larger #,s on roosts but they were spread out over a large area on a refuge. Anything over 40K would be tough to get a solid estimate on IMO. With the #,s of geese that funnel through AR, I would,nt be surprised to see feeds well over 50K.

Y'all are still on this lol

I shared a field that Tony and I estimated to have 150,000/200,000 birds in it while in AR. My feeds where realistically holding 40-60k and I had 3-4 per week that size. My clients and I had a ball shooting these sky carp in adult feeds over 30k and even set up on some smaller feeds 3/10k of juvies once they showed up which produced the best number days because they where much easier to finish the biggg wads.

When starting a new business you have to stay on people's minds and up at the top on forums and what better way then to round up, It worked and I'm 1/3 booked for next season by sharing harvest photos and this years client testimonys, so it worked. We harvested 723 geese and everyone's shoulder hurt after the day so I would say it was a great success!

I averaged around 50 birds per day over a smaller spread. I have already upgraded my spread to 1000 prices and upgraded all of our equipment off this years profit and leased 80,000 acres and have access to another 40,000 on a day lease contract so 2019 is going to be a blast

My point exactly, I need a poop emoji! So I can say poop load lol

I really did have several 50-75k feeds but I didn't take many photos but will next season just to show how great the numbers are. I appreciate it! It's a '17 F-250 with a leveling kit, 35 Nitto Trail Grapplers, 55gal titan fuel tank, built in passport radar detactor, b&w gooseneck hitch and roll back bed cover. Had 2000 miles when I left and now has 6375! Lots of scouting = lots of success

Ummmm if you averaged 50 birds a day and you hunted 30 days that’s 1,500 birds... you posted you killed 723....Do the math again for us..John Paul’s been kinda on point... so was that 30 actual days you had decoys out?? Or you were in country?? There’s kinda a difference.. and to associate yourself with Tony, really?? Everyone knows you can catch huge bass and got big pen raised deer... Nobody denying that... Hats off to ya... No way you are even close to what Tony does in the snow goose business, quit associating yourself with him.... Justin hill killed more in the last week than you did the whole month... 😉 that’s a name you’ll want to know

Re: 139 Down! - 03/06/18 12:40 AM

I didn't hunt 30 days boss, I went 7 days before trips started to close deals and work on deals for the '19 season and we lost several days due to thunderstorms and flooding.

When me and my scouts run into Tony on the regular and have fields that are side by side in multiple instances then yes I mention the goose gods name. As a matter of fact the day before he pulled out to follow em up north I had acres to a massive feed and one of his guides rolled up and I let them have it because we had another massive one that was high and dry and not muddy. That's how most guides roll, we show respect to each other.

So Brian if you have a problem hit me up I mean I send guys your way on the regular so Not sure why the hate for a guy just making a business for himself that has ZERO to do with you and I'm even in another state. You stick to cacklers and keep doing you bro and I'll do me. Maybe when I start a gig in Lubbock we can have a beer and discuss.

I think posts like this is what makes you catch some [censored] ...pump the brakes

I don't pump the breaks I run full steam ahead. Nothing wrong with sharing a great write up about chasing snows, it's not written by me or strictly about me. It shares thoughts of several folks who are actually doing it

That is if you believe the feds. This is not a diss on you. I think the feds are feeding the hunters a bucket of crap as far as waterfowl numbers are concerned.

My clients and I had a ball shooting these sky carp in adult feeds over 30k and even set up on some smaller feeds 3/10k of juvies once they showed up which produced the best number days because they where much easier to finish the biggg wads.

LMFAO!!! Now we are down to 40,000 birds per feed? If you had started at that number I probably would have believed you. I just don't think it's necessary to stretch the truth to your potential clients. I'd be tickled if I booked a hunt and the guide called and told me he had a 10,000 bird feed. If he told me he had a 100,000 bird feed and I show up and we see 10,000 I'd think he was a DA.

I don't see where you have been "hated/dissed" upon. Just because we have questions and don't hold back has nothing to do with hating on you. You have an opinion there were four 100,000 bird feeds. I don't have an opinion on that in any capacity, I don't care as I am not hunting snows this year. My question was presented as nice as possible. I just don't see the outfitters swhacking a 333 birds every day for 30 days in a row. I grew up and spent over 40 years chasing the white birds. I grew up hunting in what used to be the snow goose capital, the Katy and San Bernard prairies. I am not going to tell you the 333 everyday for 30 days straight didn't happen, I just have a right to present my doubts. There was no hating going on. So far as John Paul, you need to meet John. I have met him and he seems to be a straight up honest, nice person. He has been one of the more level headed posters on this forum.

I never tell clients how big a feed is it's either a huge feed, monster feed big feed or small feed of juvies

We typically shoot the same number whether 100,000 or 50,000 as the main key is the sizes of the groups as they come in to the feed. I like groups of 100-500 best as it's way more targets than we need but not a ton of eyes to pick out a client moving or anything array in the spread.

I have hunted the Katy Garwood area quite a bit to. Fun area as the cranes make for a bonus. In AR & Mo 300+ days are rare but do happen every so often. 100-200 are semi common especially if you have the weather conditions, sun and 10-15mph wind that stays from the same direction all day. Swirling winds was a battle we faced several days but after a little experimentation I built a spread where we could quickly adjust to keep them locked up in the kill hole

I certainly hope no offense was taken as I would like to give your outfit a whirl one of these days. No offense was meant I assure you. I can be a super duper arseholio as I am sure Garrett, Hogman and Dave Speer will all chime in with confirmation to that fact. This was not the case this time. I have hunted them long enough to realize anyone that can chase them everyday for weeks on end has earned a spot of respect, no matter what else.

No offense taken bud! Heck I haven't taken offense to any post on here for that mater. I come off as a cocky prick sometimes but it's just my wording in text. I have hunted with Garrett a time or two as well and I'm sure he can vouch for me not being a pecker. There's one or two ways a guy can chase em for months on end, they either truly have a passion for it or they are flat out crazy

I can understand being a pecker or an a..h... but shooting gloves and fedora is out of line. I caught a fedora in a blind one time. It itched and I like to have never got rid of it.

And I'm not talking an old school fedora that the men wore in the older days, I'm talking full blown hipster type you see down in the Montrose part of Houston

Re: 139 Down! - 03/14/18 03:56 PM

easy to see how someone can get excited and over estimate. Hard to tell when birds fill a field up slam full...im used to seeing 2-4 and 6-10k in a field so when it doubles or is completely full and start seeing 15-20k estimates get hazy...easier way to keep track is when you have multiple hundred acre fields full then you know you are pushing 30-40k
