Is it legal to shoot teal during normal duck season? Or only in September?

As long as you have your teal tags, you're good to go.

You are allowed to shoot teal all year, there is no season for them.

Here is the backstory. I am not a duck hunter. I have a buddy that is, and wants to come out this weekend and shoot some. When I looked in the rule book, it says Sept. 9-24. So how would that make them still in season?

Thanks ahead of time!

In September, teal are the only species allowed to be taken. So it is a "teal only season". They are considered part of your regular bag during the regular waterfowl season, and the limit is 6 per day.

And there is no such thing as a teal tag. Just so you know.

Teal are the first ducks to migrate early in the year which is why there is a teal only season to give hunters a chance to kill them and also some early geese. You can’t shoot “big ducks” during teal season. After the special teal season ends and big duck season begins as others have pointed out, teal count in your six duck per day limit.

Teal seem to fly early for me so if there are plenty of ducks around I pass on them to shoot bigger ducks. If you are not seeing many big ducks shoot them because they are tasty!

Everything's legal until you get caught

Thanks guys. I just wanted to be clear on it before I answered him. I've never shot at a duck in my life, so this is a little out of my wheelhouse. If I read the book right, season ends Sunday?
