So I’m scouting today, tooling thru the stumps/timber about 20 mph in the gatortrax mudbuddy, overcast so could not see white trotline face high till last second, can’t remember which hand I used, tiller hand or grab bar hand to last second get hand in front to grab and snap trot line, which took a second to regain control of boat when I look up and here comes a 2nd line face high, this time time catches me right in the face, rips my hat and oakley prescription glasses off into the lake lost, pissed as hell but glad it could have been worse.

Glad you're alright.

Did you cut up the trotline?

That's messed up not flagging it.

Enough to make me bleed, which freaked me out, it was cold as hell to start with, after trotline ripped across my face, my face was numb, I could not feel it, but I could see blood on my hand. I was worried I had a bad injury but could not feel it.

Messed up for not flagging it for sure. You hit much of anything doing 20 in the stumps and it probably wouldn't be too much fun

Dang glad you are alright, I have always worried about a dog getting tangled up in one while in deep water on a retrieve. However being clotheslined by one had not crossed my mind till now.

The world wouldn't miss them if they were to be outlawed...

Call the gw if was not flagged properly. They might keep looking and catch the tanker. Glad you're good to go though. Imagine a hook on the face and getting yanked out the boat with a hook buried. Bad all the way around.

I hate trotlines. I wish they would outlaw them. Glad you are okay Guy.

Irresponsible jerks. I can't think of one trotline that I have seen properly marked and tagged. They are only good for 10 days after set by law. Why would a line be neck high unless it was left illegally? They should all be submerged and marked with floats/buoys.

Sounds exactly like something that would happen to you!

It was submerged, our lakes are down that far.

I cut everyone I see...they make me nervous. Glad you're alright Guy.

If I find a trotline without a tag I cut it. If I find one across a major waterway even with a tag I cut it. I grew up using trotlines and we always put them along a timberline where no boats could go. Glad you are ok.

Yes sir, they are dangerous. I almost decapitated an ex-girlfriend on one, and it wasn't even on purpose! shocked

The only thing I hate more is when property owners extend temporary electric fence wire into the lake bed when the water is down and then don't pull it up before the lake fills back up.
mad
Both the T-posts and wire can get you!

Glad that came out as good as it did. There are too many ways that could go really bad, hooks in the face, or the eye. It could get ugly really quick.

Glad you are ok

Newest john boat accessory. One of those wire cutters they put on the front of jeeps in WWII!

We actually put one of those on a john boat we hunted in Illinois. Got it out of the Savanna Army Depot. Those trotlinners in the backwater sloughs of the Mississippi where bad about leaving lines out and never picking them up. We did in more than a few with that jewel.

We are all screwed if we ever employ this type of approach. It would not be hard to find numerous people who hate many things you do enjoy, and yes they would support laws to take those rights away from you as well.

This.

If I see a trotline above waterline or obviously old and not in use I cut it. I grew up running lines and still do on occasion.
