She does not obey well at all. No commands, no discipline, no drive...nothing. She's past her prime breeding age, and like that song say...'I think my dog's a democrat' ...

Time to put her out to the pasture.

My guy "Camo" is still in training. I'm doing it myself so we are taking our time. He is doing well though.

Don't count the little dogs out! This is our JRT "Gator" 11 months ago at 4.5 months old. He is running senior level set ups with ease now. He picked up about 10 lessers and specks a couple weeks ago on a goose hunt.

My next dog. If you have any words of wisdom please PM me.

My current retriever with his first big duck (Can hen). He has 8 more seasons under his belt now and has come along nicely.

Larry, the dog I posted is a smooth coated Pudelpointer. He has more natural ability and go then any dog I have hunted. I have never heard of a single candy [censored] in the breed. They are hard to get and most breeders have a long waiting list and place every pup in a hunting home. My advice is to contact the breeder you hope to get the pup from well in advance and get on the list so you don't get caught without a dog when yours gets too old. Mine came from cedarwood gundogs. They are not the only breeder but came to me highly recommended. The dog I have has exceeded my expectations. They can do a lot of things well.

Smokey, do you ever bird hunt with your pudelpointer? If so what kind of range does he have and how does he handle the heat?

Re: Let's see your duck dog? - 11/28/17 07:43 PM

Yes, I do. I shot my first limit of wild quail over him at 5 months in the rolling plains.

He is 15 months old now and I had him in North Dakota hunting pheasant, Huns, and grouse for 12 days this month. In open cover he will get out about 150-175 yards either side (per my Astro 430) and in dense tight stuff he closes it down enough to keep up with where I am. If he is on a runner all bets are off. Here is a pic of him on point.

He does reasonably well in the heat. Similar to a GSP but not as well as an EP. Texas weather is what led me to pursue the slick coat.

He will also blood trail a wounded deer.
OP- Sorry for the hijack.
