Thanks. I figure if nothing else we can compare reports over the next three weeks to see what the numbers do. I have a couple of other places to scout and will try to repeat next week.

Drove a few ponds today around Belton... Saw 1 mallard, 2 teal, and a spoonie. Strange that both the spoonie and the mallard were by themselves on separate ponds.
Anyway, that's all I saw and I checked about 7 ponds.

Since you can't hunt it, I'll name it. Lometa was packed with ducks as I drove by today at 6:15. No idea what ducks were on it, but it was full of 'em. Tanks at the ranch in Carbon not so much.

normally don't get huntable numbers in E/SE tx on our places until mid November, sometimes thanksgiving. But, have already had a handful show up on the only water we have right now. Would be nice to have good huntable numbers for the first couple weeks!! this happened about 3 or so years ago.

10/28/2017 report
My lake 1 (north Texas)
2 scouting parties. 1 east, 1 west. Met in middle.
Surprisingly west party saw few ducks. Eastern party found huntable number of ducks..
Boat across middle of lake one kicked up large but scattered numbers of ducks. Consisting of 83.4% divers of some species ( most likely scaup). These birds considered unhuntable due to water depth and lack of any cover.

Re: Duck Reports - 10/30/17 03:57 PM
Our lease is just a couple miles east of the HPMMU. Went this weekend to get some stuff done around camp and move some feeders. On the way (and the way back) I started seeing groups on tanks once I got an hour or so west of Ft Worth. We have two decent ponds on the place, one is only about an acre but has lots of groceries. The other is 3.5 acres. The smaller one was holding a couple dozen greys and wigeon, the larger one had well over 100.
Decided to take the boat and try to hunt HPMMU on Saturday. The Astros game made us stay up late drinking beer so we decided to try to roll in later than normal. West-ish Texas, nobody cares about ducks out here, right? Got to the ramp, parking lot was full of trucks with DU stickers and empty boat trailers.
Turned my arse right around and went back. Was a good nap.

I saw your post, that sux. I'm keeping optimistic tho... the lack of dux will hopefully lighten hunting pressure. I'm hard headed enough to still try going into it with low expectations. I just don't want to have to fight a dozen groups of hunters for a handful of decent spots.

11/4/17 Report
Back to lake 1
Mallards, greys and teal, teal and more teal.
Hunters on youth only had some success.
Can't wait for the zoo that is opening day. Found some loafing spots so can't decide whether to go in later and let the early birds shoot each other or go early, lay low, and hope they show up at a loafing spot. This was a near full moon so what happened today might not happen next weekend. With all the commotion next weekend they may just head for the coast.

Saw a big group of mallards on lake fork last week during the cold weather Saturday. Probably 25-30 of em and mostly green heads.

Re: Duck Reports - 11/08/17 11:13 AM
They are here:mainly gadwall teal and Wigeon. Good buildup yesterday. All holes but one (roosting hole) held good numbers, including group of greaters
Unlikely your mallards are migrators. Probably LF marina park ducks. Bit early for mallard migration to N TX

It brought more birds down in my neck of the woods...went by my best indicator pond this morning and it was holding 700-800 birds. Was only holding about 100 as of Monday. When this pond is at it's peak it will hold 2k-3k birds...mostly pintail, wigeon, gadwall, and teal.

November mallard migration is quite normal, shorter days trigger migration for many mallards, the rest are forced down bacause of cold weather. Some of my best mallard shoots have been early/mid November.

Only day I could scout this week was yesterday before the front. Had Cranes and Geese roosting. We've never seen that many geese and cranes usually show up in February.
Ducks came in waves of 6-12+ from LST until we left about 30-45 minutes later. Hopefully it will be like that Saturday.
Mostly teal, wigeon, Gaddies with a few mallards and pintails.

Maybe on big water/ lakes. Not on private holes 2-20acres that I hunt- I do see primarily mallards at the lake house but not at my hunting holes. I am seeing lots of gadwall‘s teal more teal and then some teal. Few widgeons mixed in. Even saw few blackjacks today

It might be worth mentioning...if you're in the Dallas area and heading north on Saturday morning to go hunt... The are CLOSING Hwy 75 (both ways) in Plano at Plano Parkway because they are tearing down the bridge. I heard the construction starts at 3 AM on Saturday morning and will last all weekend.
