How long until you call it?

When you're having a slow morning duck hunting how long do you wait to pack up? The other day I hunted public and didn't see a bird and heard maybe 3 far far shots all morning. I left before the guy that was about 200 yards away from me. Who was the sucker?

Usually done by 9am regardless

Early teal... I'm hangin' around for that first rush at LST. Will hang around another hour for the tricklers (assuming I see some), then I'm gone.

Big duck season, anywhere from 10-1130..where I hunt a lot of the birds don't show up until 930 or so from oklahoma.

I agree with the comments above...... Unless there is a front involved...

Teal season....done about an hour after legal.
Regular Season....depends on where/what I'm hunting...Mallards, I will generally stay until 11-12...OTM's generally done by 9-10

In the situation you described, I would have wait until an hour after shooting light and left.

And that was probably dove.

Big ducks 10-11. Can always get the late pintails. Teal, 9.30 and its done.

I used to hunt Granger Lake. We hunted there so much that we really had things figured out. Around 10 when most guys were headed in we always got more shooting in. Especially when it was really cold and the sun would break through. Seemed all the birds would move one more time. We often hunted till 11 it usually meant 3 or 4 more birds if we had room for them. Also it's worth it to say most of the time on Granger the late flight were woodys. I'm not sure why but it was always nice.
