Any suggestions for Guide service at Lake Fork? - 09/12/17 07:10 PM

Looking to book a duck hunt for a group of about 10 at Lake Fork
Anyone have any good experiences with guides/lodges there they could share?

Thanks!

This may not be much help to you but it seems you're more likely to have a successful hunt especially with 10 guys if you can find a guide to take you somewhere private. Public dux can be hard to hunt and you have to compete with other hunters on the lake. I just wouldn't want to pay good money to be guided on public land. cheers

Lance Vick- He is a Fishing Guide who also Guides Duck Hunts in the Fall/Winter. Had a Great Hunt w/ Him a few yrs. Back. We took care of our own lodging but he can direct you in the right direction. Again, like kdub said, you may want to find some private waters to hunt if you have a Big Group.

Ed Hanson with Hanson Outdoors 903-521-4595. He does both Lake Fork hunts and private land hunts in that area.

Agreed. I would hate to be a guide trying to put 10 people on birds on public.

I have had some GREAT hunts with the Bestwina guys up on Texoma on the Red River from a airboat, I would definitely call him. We had 10 guys on our last hunt and we all did awesome. That was several years ago though. They take you to a VERY remote spot nobody else can or is brave enough to try and get to.

Agreed...better to pay a guide for access to private land and not compete with public hunters.

if you got 10 people, you need to go north to either Arkansas or Oklahoma where there will be enough birds for 10 limits.

I have hunted with both Ed Hanson and Lance Vick on Lake Fork. Both are great guides and great people that do their best to put you on the birds.

Lance is more fun loving guy that wants to make sure you're having a good time. The last time I went out with him (probably 6 years ago) Lance set up a small camp stove in the blind and made us breakfast tacos while we hunted. The birds didn't really cooperate in the spot we were in so we picked up, pulled the boat out out the water, trailered to the south end of the lake and went to a new spot where we proceeded to kill a three man limit. We had a group of (6) on this hunt but Lance suggested that we split into two group to better our chances. Both groups had great hunts

Ed is a serious duck hunter who wants you to kill ducks. He tried to convince our party of 6 multiple time to hunt some private land close by because we would shoot more birds and more variety. We told Ed we were keen on shooting Cans so we stayed at Fork. Ed set us up to get on the Cans and we shot a 6 man limit of them. We found Ed by approaching him at a boat ramp after my dad and I had scouted the lake with no success. After talking for a little bit he told us about a place we could try to walk in and hunt. The next day my Dad and I proceeded to shoot our limits of Ring Necks in his spot.

Long story short, I would highly recommend either guide.

Edd Hanson hands down the best in that part of Texas

I purchased one of my lab pups from Ed. Very nice down to earth person, and I can vouch for the quality of his retriever.

Yep, lake texoma, shoot you some of those ducks. The guides money bird! The shovelor!. Lake fork, watch the parade of boats. No if going with a guide go private. Contrary to a reply above, the guid will love taking 10 people. That's at the least a 1,500 dollar day. Hell a limit is 60 birds. Even just 3 birds a piece for a total of 30 birds ain't exactly easy. Any smart quire will split you up. Oklahoma or Arkansas ain't gonna be anymore likely to provide that number of birds than here. I would recommend considering a goose hunt in the Knox city area, roughly 3 hours from DFW or a snow goose hunt in the eagle lake area.

No way I am paying a guide to take me hunting on public water in NE Texas. To many variables.

I agree with statements above. Lance is a good guy, him and Rick Carter both help each other out and guide in a Fork, not knocking Lance or Rick, we went with Rick last year for some Cans. If it were me, I too would look at private and look into folks like Bullzeye outfitters in Sherman, Muddy Waters in Wichita Falls, Those are the only 2 that I have personal experiences with in trips. I know Muddy Waters has a new lodge they can put you up in as well.

There are several good choices in the Outfitters section of the forum, lots of people on here also have experiences with most of them as well.
