Millet

Looking for some clarification here. The way the law reads, a person cannot hunt over manipulated millet, unless it comes back in subsequent years. If I broadcasted some millet and hunted over it this year, is that legal seeing as it wasn't manipulated?

Yes, as long as you let it grow into a plant and do not manipulate it.

I have never had success planting millet and not having it eaten. How can you tell if it is a first year crop or if it came back?

I just replant it every year... never had much problem with anything eating it but ducks

They'll literally walk up on the bank and rip it off the stalks. Doesn't really need to be manipulated in my experience.

perfectly legal as long as you don't do anything to it that is not intentional manipulation. you can still travel through the planted millet as long as you are doing a "normal" hunting task.(decoys in or out, downed ducks, dogs, etc) you and the gw and determine if what you were doing is normal or not. I've never seen a need to manipulate millet in any kind of way though. as far as flooding goes, the feds classify that as manipulating the ground, not the millet.

and ders, millets are annual grasses. there is no way for anyone to tell when it is planted unless they are watching you plant it. you can take water off at the right time, spray 24d, and flush a field, and if there isn't a lot of competition that came up the millet will be thicker than when you planted it the first time
