12/9 Red River - 12/12/16 05:23 PM
My first post as a new member. I took off work Friday and went on my first hunt of this year. Not a lot of birds where I was at, but still had a good setup that got enough on me for a limit. Can't wait to go again.

Be careful on the Red River. The Oklahoma season did not start till Saturday.

I call it the "Red River" its actually a slough right off the river, but they're still what I call "River" birds.

I'd say that's pretty close to a "perfect" limit.

It was a great hunt...busting through ice for the first time in a while...had my pintail and 4 green heads pretty quick but had to let countless teals, shovelers, wood ducks, and others pass for over an hour and a half until my last green head came by to complete my cycle.

Very nice limit of (all boy ducks). Nice job.
Good to see the green tops pushing down this way.

Great area to hunt. We've had a few good ones there.
I have not seen any Pintails this year. Been shooting the Mallards but no Pintails. Nice strap!

Dude, I have hunted this spot for a while, and have yet to see even a flyby goose. But like clockwork, every time I leave to head home I drive 10 min down the road and pass fields filled with Snows and Canadians. Sometimes I pull over and just watch them. I need to see if I can get permission to hunt but I have yet to see anybody out there to ask.

Great looking birds. How old is your Auto 5? The stock looks like it could be Belgium made. Were you able to get a Japanese barrel for the steel shot?

Excellent post Yetiguy! Welcome to the forum. I shot my first woodie drake in same area...was poor college student so I ate it instead of mounting...circle of life.
You got some old hands posting up kudos

Haven't seen that young dude in old school camo that wasn't old school at the time. Always love looking at the A5's. Keep posting.

Thanks ndhunter! I've been reading posts here for a while, but I never thought about joining until this year. I've been duck (deer, turkey) hunting for 23 years and love to talk hunting but none of the guys i work with hunt.

Geese or not, that's a very respectable limit (as you probably already know). People hunt their whole lives to achieve perfect limits like that. I would have a lot more limits like that, but I only shoot banded ducks.

I wonder if it was this slough. We moved from there to the river at times.
