Merganser question?

Does a merganser count as part of a daily limit? I already have 6 ducks(Can pair, hell yeah). Can I still shoot a hoodie, or would it put me over?

I never do but looks like they are separate. Think up to 2 hooded and 5-6 total. Check site

6 ducks max bud, you've got your limit.

Mergansers are separate

Duck 6 birds May include no more than:
5 mallards (only two may be hens)
3 wood ducks
3 scaup
2 redheads
2 pintail
2 canvasback
1 "dusky" duck (including mottled duck, mexican like duck,
black duck and their hybrids)

Merganser 5 birds May include no more than 2 hooded mergansers

Coot 15 birds

The good news is, you can still shoot 15 coots too. Good luck

Give the 6 ducks to your friends and only cook the mergansers,,,, they are the best eating !!!!!!! Taste like mullet.

Mergansers DO NOT count towards your 6 duck limits. Was checked by the game warden this morning and asked him also. He said no. They have their own limit

This^^^ And just to fully clarify let me just say, Mergansers are not ducks. They are not coots either. And coots are not ducks. They are all different animals with their own limits and are all mutually exclusive. So you can shoot a limit of all 3, if you want.

Of course I didn't see any after my OP. I will know for next time though. Was a cool morning. We could have shot Canvasbacks all morning long. Had prob 150 of them come in. It was great to see so many.

I know Mergansers aren't ducks, but wanted to make sure I wasn't getting myself in trouble by taking more than I should. Would love to get a hoodie for the wall. The can would have been something for the wall for sure had I now hit them so hard. They were both pretty beat up.
