Looking at planting or doing some type of underwater vegetation on a couple different spots that I have. I have millet growing on most of the places I hunt but I have a few spots that are straight river bottom properties with sloughs and a couple waist deep holes. These spots have PLENTY of pecans to hold my Wood Ducks but I am looking at trying to get something growing down there to keep the gadwall and widgeon longer down there! They get in there eat what they can then on to the next, Just looking for something to get going down there.

Any thoughts on Widgeon grass maybe?

These places hold water all year round except for my sloughs until we get a good rain or have to pay the farmer for water.

I would throw millet out on the edges I the mud about twice as it dries up. depending on the water clarity and quality, wigeon grass may or may not work you transplant it onto the bottom and actually mash it into the mud. Sunlight must be able to penetrate through the water to the actual plant. In wooded river bottom sloughs, with rotten/decaying organic matter like logs, I would check the ph and haul in a few buckets or water troughs full of duckweed. if the water is right, and most river bottom sloughs are, it will take off and be covered up with gadwalls and wigeons next winter. Under optimum conditions(good ph and water temp), duckweed will double in size every 36-72 hours. very fast growing, but they are still plants that take time...and its almost august.

Where can duck weed be found. I have planted duck potato and arrow bull tongue potato back in the spring. I have vegetation but not sure if it's duck weed or not. I would like to see some in person to id it

its lime green colored little leafs that float on the water. sewage retention ponds that aren't as manicured are often solid. a lot of ponds that are downhill or catch run off from feed lots or areas where a lot of animals are around.
