Started mounting my own birds

Started mounting my own birds - 06/20/16 04:43 PM

I've wanted to start doing this for a while now. This off-season, I've been mounting a few birds.

I got the wood duck dvd set from Matt Smith @ blue ribbon birds. Really looking forward to the hoodie dvd coming out.

Here is my second bird. It was a graduation present for my brother-in-law.

I've decided I don't really care to do commercial taxidermist type birds. There has to be something different or cool about it.

That is really cool! I like the artistic approach.

Good job. Very nice job for your second mount. Your brother-in-law should be very pleased with your project. Keep up the good work, Paul.

Thanks. It was a crap ton of work (mostly the display) but a lot of fun and it's a good way to extend my season.

Great looking base and that's a great mount for your second bird!!'

If you don't want to do birds for others , I strongly suggest that you practice this one word......NO.

Every person you hunt with with try to get you to do a bird for them. Next thing you know you've got to buy an extra freezer.....,

Nice work, I would never have the patience for that.

^^ I've got a few friends and family I'm willing to mount a bird for. I'm thinking they pay my expenses and I get some experience. I'm prepared to say NO to others, though. I've got a month old at home and my time is no longer my own.

I did think about putting on a door and making it a small cabinet. Also thought about doing a whitewash of the Rice R on the front and even scripting out the alma mater. After 60 hours of work, though, I convinced myself it would take away from the overall piece.

Or leave the door off, and put other mounts inside. A dead hanging mount would be cool.

Great job for a second bird and the display is fantastic

reading these thoughts and ideas thought about swimming duck on top with a diver swimming in the space under it.
