Summer dove plots - 03/30/16 05:52 PM

Yesterday we got a few acres disked up and ready to plant, but I'm not sure what to go with. I know sunflowers are out, I was thinking milo but wanted to hear any other suggestions as well as when it should go in. I plan on shredding in August so if it matures out early it can stay standing until then as far as I'm concerned. Any help would be appreciated, it's all blackland soil for the most part.

Milo, sesame, millet, spring wheat. Or all four.

Maybe broadcast millet and plant milo and sesame with a planter.

Not sure what equipment you have available.

Sunflowers would be your best bet with the soil type you described. Sesame can be difficult to grow. My farmers plant it for me, without the right equipment you may be wasting your $ and time.

depending on where you are exactly and the ground, you should be able to disk in the late fall one year, and have an outstanding native flower patch the next year. happens a lot in fields that are planted in ww and left alone the following year.
