Red Heads - 01/14/16 01:17 PM

I hunt several ponds in my area but for some reason one them pulls in lots of red heads. There are some ponds close to it not a bird on it Its been like this as long as I can remember I just cant figure it out why they like that pond

My wife's Grandfather has a pond that only seems to hold divers and it is not big and open or anything it is just deep with lots of fathead minnows...which are easy targets for divers.

There is nothing wrong with the red heads so far as table fare. We were making stock for the gumbo this weekend using the boiled red headed ducks, hearts and gizzards. The first duck I pulled out of the pot never made it into the gumbo, it got devoured in about 3 seconds, including a gizzard. Only one in the party said he was not too thrilled about the taste. The rest went ape doo doo over it. That was just boiled with a zatarans pack, salt, pepper, garlic and onions.

I've got a place with two tanks. The larger deeper one is covered in puddlers and the smaller shallower one is covered in redheads only.... confused2

The larger deeper one does have a shallow end and also has good vegetation on the edges. Tanks are 1000m apart and can't figure out why the one has only redheads and the other only puddlers.
