That stinks! My Gander Mountain closed down last month too! Have to drive over an hour to get the shells that I shoot...

Re: Guess it's true - 11/12/15 02:55 PM

You can order them and have them shipped to your door.. prolly why these places are closing down.

Re: Guess it's true - 11/12/15 02:58 PM

Yeah I looked at that, but the shipping is pretty high. Funny that my wife said the same thing cause I always come back with a little more...

My son's 410 bismuth shells cost $44 a box with shipping. Couldn't imagine what a case of Hevi Metal costs.

One more giant buying out the competition to give consumers the illusion of free choice.

I would say they are closing down because they suck. The big chain waterfowl sections leave a whole lot to be desired. So much so I won't go to them. Online is the way for me to go. I compare a visit to their waterfowl sections to getting seasick. Get sick and you swear to never go again. A year later you get excited about going offshore and manage to tell yourself it was a fluke you got sick on the last trip. 10 trips getting sick and you finally learn to never talk yourself into going again. Same thing with their waterfowl sections.

I just go to Academy or Wal-Mart since its on the way home lol

Re: Guess it's true - 11/12/15 03:18 PM

I don't believe they offer steel for a 410. The barrel is too tight and steel is non conforming. I pray that I am wrong about this and you can tell me where to get it though... lol

Academy is where I have been buying my shells. I take my wife's car... Costs about 10 bucks a trip, but I minimize the trips for sure.

Me too. I was mad the other day because Walmart had Remington 2 3/4 #4 and #6 pellet shells at $9.80 a box. Inflation!

Re: Guess it's true - 11/12/15 03:41 PM

I hadn't heard of this until now. I like Cabelas over Bass Pro, so that stinks, but we also need more options, not less. I also hope that Bass Pro at least converts the Cabelas stores into Bass Pro Shops and doesn't just close them down.

Agree. I also think the Cabela's store brand is heads above RedHead gear

Reahead gear sucks.

I ordered a new pair of Cabela's waders online on Friday Oct 30th, paid the $30 shipping upcharge to have guaranteed delivery date of Wednesday the 4th. No waders Wed, Thurs, Fri, called them Friday and oops, they should be there Monday the 9th. So I explained to them that duck season started on the 7th and that wasn't going to work.

I like having options too, but most of the employees at Cabelas are more qualified to ride a skateboard than talk hunting or fishing. Don't shop at Bass Pro much but they seem to hire old guys that have a least hunted 1 time before in their life before getting the job.

TTU hopefully they'll have a brand closeout and you can get like 5 pairs of Cabelas waders on the cheap, don't don't pay for shipping coach

Re: Guess it's true - 11/12/15 04:09 PM

I have the last two $11 boxes of 3" #4 Xperts hiding on a shelf somewhere in my local Academy. Bet you won't find 'em.

I live 20 minutes from cabelas and I'm hoping if this happens BassPro will just take over that store. Better use my $50 gift card before they're gone!

Re: Guess it's true - 11/12/15 04:52 PM

Looks like BPS is looking to buy them out. Cabelas stock is up almost 25% over the last month, and that's is a good indicator they are going to get bought, especially since the stock has been heading down over the last year.

Cappy: This is Gibbs. You know what Cabela's does. They are playing a money game with all the building they do. Sooner or later you get to the end of the road playing the cash game. We need to support the Rogers and Mack's of the world.

Simmons is another good one. Local family owned southern small town sporting goods store. Free shipping and great prices especially if you watch for sales.

Big retail is really struggling across the board right now. From Wall Mart to Cabelas to Macys.
People come look around check out products and then get on their phone and find it cheaper.

With rebate I can get Hevi Metal delivered to my front door for $150 a case. Rogers and Macks are the way to go on ammo.

Re: Guess it's true - 11/13/15 03:32 PM

Analyst indicate that Cabelas reverse logistics associated with high rate of returns on products associated with waterfowl hunting, specifically waders is primary reason for poor performance related to same store sells.

I will try and find the link to post up later

Spoke with one of the trainers and marketing directors with Cabelas last night. This is 100% rumor Bass Pro is not Buying Cabelas out. Bass Pro which is a privately held company did buy Ranger boats. Which the #1 retailer for Ranger boats in the US is Cabelas. Also one of the stock holders of Cabelas which is a publicly traded company own 5% of Cabelas, he showed interest in selling it to another major retailer and was going to sell his shares. The owners of Bass Pro showed interest in purchasing those shares. This is yet another manipulation of words by our social media and news media to generate ratings.

Of course it is a rumor, that's what moves the markets. There has been a lot of insider trading and they have at least one activist investor with an 11% interest pushing for a sale.
