lenses

For the guys that have cameras. I have a Canon sl1 and my 55-250mm lense just crapped out, throws an error message and won't take pics if I go above f4, so I need to order a new one before the opener gets here. For a zoom lens what do you guys shoot? I'm debating getting another 250 or going to a bigger 75-300mm lense. Thoughts?

I love mine. Depends on your budget. F2.8 for me is very important for wildlife photography in low light.

I agree with BuckRage that you'll want something with a higher f stop for those low light situations. 250mm should be plenty of zoom for ducks, as I'm sure you're calling them in to shooting range. I shoot a Nikon so I don't have any lens recommendations for you, but the one BuckRage posted looks nice.

The only reason I'm really considering the 300mm is for summer fishing, these would have looked a little cooler if I could have gotten a little more zoom. It's hard to seek up close on a red fish in knee deep mud to take closer pics.

Agree with Buckrage. I also shoot Nikon, like TCAT, but Tamron makes a good lense, in my experience, for Nikon. I imagine their Canon lenses are good for the price, too.

I also agree the lower F stop for low light conditions is important.

I never got into processing images much (my editor did that and now my wife does) but could you shoot RAW images and them crop them, if you don't end up going with a 300mm? Might allow you to get away with a lighter lens if you use a larger image.

Depends on what lens you are referring to. Are you talking about the kit lens? If so, I haven't heard many good things about the 75-300. My dad has one but I haven't played with it much.
