Not over till it's over.

Not over till it's over. - 10/22/15 02:45 AM

Lack of rain has the birds hitting drying up water.

45 with my boys last weekend. Big fat mature birds.

Youngest and I got 30 in about 10 min today. Fast and furious. Nice warmup with the noisy cricket.

Birds are coming in stuffed full of wheat seed.

I've been chasing them around here in the middle of a field the last week. Pattern has gone out the window.

Lates season birds and cool weather makes for some good hunting.

First split ended yesterday, right?? I wish they'd just let it run straight through. Can't imagine it would hurt the population any.

I believe it's still open in the north and central zones until Sunday.

Has been steady shooting the entire season around these parts. One of the best years in memory.

Good eye. Snipe opens late October. That's an old pic out of my picture albums. Been hunting the same exact spot for 10 years and grabbed that pic out of my albums to show how much wheat the birds have in em. we don't see a ton of snipe but occasionally in dec/jab/feb-we have a few.

I question if it is actually a snipe, is there a better pic of this shore bird?

Looks like bragging caught up with him this time. I wonder what else is going to be found now that the covers have been pulled back.

Re: Not over till it's over. - 10/22/15 10:32 PM

Well, I'm not really sure what happened there. It is a pic from a couple weeks ago that I grabbed out of photobucket to show how much wheat the birds are eating. It was not from either hunt that I was posting about. I snapped the pic after one of our hunts. I'm guessing one of the kids hunting with us shot it and threw it in the pile. I never saw the snipe or sure wouldn't have posted it. I'm guessing it got cleaned and eaten. Oh well, sure was tasty.

I guess if me taking a pic of a snipe that somebody else shot is illegal, then I'm guilty......
Even George w bush shot a killdeer.......

Changing the story does not help, always stick to your origanal story no matter how crazy it sounds...just some advice

Good call blaming the kid. You must be an old hand at this.

I did grow up in SW LA.

The picture actually has me pretty curious. The last few months I've probably taken five or six guys and their kids hunting. Most are fairly serious hunters. I also took my dad a couple times. Who throughout my youth, more than once said -hey if we get caught by the game warden…

All BS aside – we had a very close call us with that three years ago. Every year I try to take several new Hunters to our place especially if they have kids if you're trying to get into hunting. We are in a closed crane zone. One morning a low light situation we had five cranes coming right straight to us and the guy that was with me really wanted to kill at Sandhill. I absolutely told him he could not shoot it out of my blind - As they passed overhead at 20 yards it was three sandhills and two whooping cranes. Those cranes have been back on our property every year for about three days at a time since then.

Second-best close call : I took two guys that had never been duckhunting before. I left them in the pit to walk around the lake and pick up some birds that had floated off. As I watched 30 pelicans approach the blind they jumped up and shot all six shots and did not cut a feather....

I can only imagine what some of our guide buddies on here have seen happen but would never talk about on the Internet forum.

Was on a mixed party goose hunt about 15 years ago. Guy in the end that was not with us smashes a roseate-the guide stopped the hunt and called the warden.

Also know a guide in AK that had two "customers" come hunt with him. They were shooting puffins, oclets, and a bunch of other protected sea birds. He called the federal warden after the hunt to report them. Turns out they were Feds trying to set him up. I want that job.....,,
