Would you get it mounted?

Would you get it mounted? - 10/03/15 08:51 PM

At some point I'd like to get a wigeon mounted. I shot this one last season and he is still in my deep freezer. He is a really pretty bird. The only thing holding me back is that he was on the small side. Noticeably smaller than the other wigeons I shot on the same hunt.

You guys that have shot a lot more wigeons than me over the years, how likely is it that I'll shoot a really nice storm?

I've got him out to clean several times but keep putting him back.

Shot this wigeon on the same hunt that was noticeably larger and had more green on his head but was shot up really bad.

I've shot a handful of storms. But none of them were real great. I have one mounted. Not a storm but a really pretty bird. Everything was perfect on him.

So you've shot as many widgeons in that picture as me all of last year! I'd mount that one but I don't get many, if you're knocking down 20 a year you can probably wait for one you really like. Beautiful birds for sure

Hard to tell cause he's frozen but your typical wigeon.

Looks good. A good mature wigeon will have a little sprig on the tail. Looks like yours has it.

Through guiding and self hunting over the years We've only shot one good storm out of prob 500 wigeons. You'll regret not mounting it if you don't ever shoot another. I have a nice wigeon on the wall and if I shot a good storm he's goin on there too

Here's the only one I've seen dead. Came in with a group of redheads, lol I remember yellin shoot the widgeon!! Customer smoked him. I've got a new phone since that hunt and the customer sent me this pic of it on the wall. Nice one, all white almost no green specs

Thats a stud wigeon.

I'm going to get mine mounted.

If I shoot one like this one day I guess I'll just have two!!

Good choice, and Yah that pic just doesn't give him justice, beautiful bird. I had some great pics of him in the sun right after we shot it too, bummer I didn't upload em to anything to save em.

Love to whistle them in. Respond well to call, typically

Mounted these two together for the heck of it.
Shot the normal drake a year after the storm.
Haven't so much as seen another storm since (5 years ago).

Mount it to where you could easily mount another one with it if you wanted to.

You can ask the taxidermy to try and make it a bit larger when he mounts it. I don't know much about it but the last mount I did I got it back and it was MUCH bigger than what I turned it. I asked him about it and he told me he was able to put it around a larger frame to make it look a bit bigger than what I had. Since all the coloring was on point I figured I would mount it. I was really glad he did that.

+1
Only ever seen one and that was in a park pond.. hammer Honestly wondered if anybody would notice a redneck crawling around with a pellet gun shooting a duck in their pond.

I'm in the same boat...we had more wigeons last year than we cared for. I mounted one a few years ago and wish I hadn't because we've shot so many the past 2 seasons...
