ductoon taj mahal update

ductoon taj mahal update - 07/13/15 10:23 AM

Production has been slow. I need a shot in the arm. The work part is easy to me. That is like everything else you just start, stay at it and the end will happen. Where I am stumped and stumped hard is hooking up the forward reverse controls to the cables and getting the shift shaft gear posotion in sync with the forward reverse controls. I aint taking the lower unit
off again, NOT EVEN ONE MORE TIME. It is a monumental rarity for me to say I give up. Write this one down because Wayne Lain gives up on this one. I am a hard headed taurus\aries with the tenacity of a stone, until this hit me. I can't tell you how many times I have walked from the lower unit to the ladder at the console, up the ladder, adjust the control arm and back again. mad mad mad

All the tires were bad on the trailer. It didn't bother me at purchase because I always replace trailer tires with with a good quality high ply tire. So yesterday I tore the hubs down to the spindles. I am cleaning off the old grease and replacing all the bearings. I am taking the wheels to get tires. When that is done it is off to the boat shop to fix the controls.

So here is the deal. If anyone thinks they can hook up the Mercury controls on a 60hp Big foot, by all means please do. For your troubles I will hand you the keys to my condo in Port O'Conner. 5 days on the water with a private boat slip. If you can get it done by this weekend I will throw in another 5 day stay. My only request is I have nothing to do with the insides of the lower unit and controls. I am so disgusted with it I cant even look that direction anymore.

That is two free vacations times free and clear of payment. No hidden electric bill no tricks no nothing.

Forget the free vacation, if I wasn't in Colorado this weekend for a wedding I'd drive to your place and stand on one end while you stood on the other and cussed just for the show laugh

Wayne were are you located? If you are close to the metro mess I would be willing to give it a try.

I am west of Houston by 45 miles. I can't hardly walk away from this problem. It is a weird thing ingrained in me. I am going to give it another go this weekend. Giving up is failure, failure isn't supposed to be an option. My wife will be home. So it will be a lot easier if she can move the controls forward and reverse while I join the shift shaft coupler.

Sounds like a good deal on the condo swap.

On my 150 mariner the motor has to be in forward before you can put the lower unit back in correctly.

It rents for $200 a night peak, $300 a night on event weekends like holidays, Poco tournament ect. I will be technically losing money but not cash out of pocket. I would say it is definitely a fair swap.

I am getting the tires put on wheels tomorrow. I have the hubs and buddy bearings in pieces in carsol so I can get them back to clean shining metal. I had to order the bearings online. Auto parts shops wanted $12 per wheel bearing X 8 bearings = $96 plus tax, add in $10 x4 for the rear grease seals that they had to order anyway and that is some serious cash. I got new caps for the buddy bearings, all 8 bearings, 5 new seals all shipped for 1/3 of what the auto part store was charging me. $58 to my door. So I will have all brand new bearings, clean grease and new tires all the way around. OH BTW I traded 3 duck calls and a couple hunts for a massive tire discount.

You won't have to hear it, you will be able to see it. I will film it in the rear view as I am driving. I am not saying it is you but there are a lot on here that think it will come apart. That isn't happening. If you compare the construction of it to a travel trailer, it is a night and day difference. This has a welded steel frame bolted to the deck with over 40 3/16 inch galvenized bolts. Only 16 to 20 square feet will be hit by wind as traveling down the road.

I heard the same thing about this blind. I was hitting 75 MPH with two trailers and the Polaris. It went down the road like a bullet. I tried to stay at 60ish but I had a mishap and got a call from my follow vehicle telling me to slow down. I didn't realize in the excitement of going to the lease I let the speed creep up to 75.
