I love and hated that evening. It was the evening my wife really got back into duck hunting. She had taken a leave of shooting when I made a mistake and slipped a turkey load into her gun while were out shooting one day. She had done so well shooting heavier and heavier loads I really thought she could handle it. That one hurt her and I knew instantly I had make a terrible mistake. It took 2 years and an over under 410 and a truck load of 410 shells to get her back to her 12 ga. Now I only buy her 12 ga 2 3/4 #6 pellets in Remington. Her Beretta absorbs the slight recoil very well.
On the day in the picture we got set up. I told her to fire a round off into the water to see how wide her pattern would be at the distance established. She did! It was an eye opener for her to see live action patterns in the water. She said she was comfortable and I told her "Good, you need to load up because here comes the first 50 redheads". She missed the first bird but could see she was behind it. I told her to load up again because there was another group of 50 coming in. She picked the lead bird that just happened to be a big bull of a drake redhead. She nailed his arse and he skipped across the water. Next group came and down another one went.
I aint going to say how but my limit went down in short order as well. My buddy 's limit of redheads met the same fate. I will say this, she found the fire again. When the sun touched the water and she took this picture, she was hating the fact it was all over right around the time she got back that duck hunting spirit. There is always next year.
