Mazatlan 2015

Mazatlan 2015 - 02/21/15 11:55 PM

Got the chance to go on a 4 day hunt last week. This was both a hunt and great vacation. I was able to come back with the birds I went for. The trip was booked through Get Ducks with the Mazatlan Wingshooting Club who also owns the Palms resort in Mazatlan. Every morning we headed out at 5:30 then drive an hour and a half to two hours to either a small fresh water pool or salt water flat. Each day I hunted alone but on the same area as the other hunters. Most days there was 4-6 total hunters.

The first day I was teamed up with some guys from Jersey. We shot shovelers and teal. They were able to bag some nice redheads.

Second day Jersey guys again. Got the cinnamons I wanted. A lot of teal. They shot some pintails. The cinnamons showed up and good thing because that was the only day I saw as many as we did.

Final day blue wings by the hundreds. Hunted a salt water flat. New guys that came in. I ended with blue wings, cinnamon, shovelers and a black bellied whistler to get mounted.

I loved the hunt and I got to spend a great week with my wife. 90 degrees every day. Lots of beer and great sea food. I hope to go again and take the whole family. As much as I want to go to Obregon this was both a great hunt and vacation. Everyday back at the hotel around 1:00 to swim, drink and get lots of sun.

Yes he is the guide master. Another guy named chabaa is really good. It's amazing that they can pick blue wings put before even seeing their colors. I chated with you in August about it and that helped me out. I think for those that need to please the wife and nock a few off the list its a great experience. I hope to go again during Christmas break with the kids.

Lol. You know the jersey guys I hated but then liked. At first they were loud and sounded like asses. But as I met other hunters I realized they were more passionate and just loved the whole hunt. One of them I got his info andaybe down the road I want to hook up for scotters and black duck hunt.

Great trip. Was the shoveler in the first picture a miniature one? Looks about 1/2 the size

Yes the shovelers were all the same size. The young birds were not in full plumage. Only one bird had a slightly larger bill that the others. Otherwise besides the black behind the neck they looked all similar. It's probably because I had his head tucked back.
