Carving a dozen teal, 6 gadwall, and 6 mallard dekes. Probably a couple pintail drakes also for some color

That! Or something like it. I would like to have some sprigs in my coastal spread next year. I would also like to add a half dozen or so spoonies.

I got the 4 wheeler cleaned up this week while it was warm and dropped it off for service today. Fixing odds and ends on my truck and trailer to get them back in shape.

Next is the garage!

Water is low in all of our ponds. Is this the time to start planting vegetation for next season? If so, what would you recommend?

Not until the summer. Plant a mix of Japanese and browntop millet. This combination ensures that you will have something come up and do well as the Japanese millet will do well in wet years and browntop will do well in drier years when the ponds stay low. Millet is very low maintenance compared to other duck foods like corn.

I'm fighting beavers right now. They got my drains stopped up on two holes.

May even do a september planting to maximize surface area. What's latest you guys have planted in N texas? Just have to be careful and not hunt dove if any seed present

I'm not sure what we have planted right now. My father grows coastal Bermuda grass for hay. We haven't planted anything by the ponds, but we tend to have algae during the summer. Dad calls it duck algae but I don't know if that is correct.

I planted millet in late August last year. No way was it ready for teal season, but it plenty of seed by the time regular season rolled around.

So do you guys just go along the waterline and plant?

If you're not able to control your water (drain and flood) then you have no choice but to plant on the edges

Plant in 2-3 stages. Push it out a bit. Do 1/2 in moist soil. Till water and treat invasives. Let yall know how it goes- oct 10 or so is first freeze N TX- probably pushing it, but worth the risk

Trash pump w sprinkler heads will solve that problem

Looking forward to letting all the layers cure the appropriate amount of time, and getting these puppies ready to hunt over! Used a half dozen carvers for the first time this year and killed birds fine, but beat them up pretty good hurrying through the sealing process. Not this time!

You can plant jap millet starting in June all the way down as water recedes to late August. As long as u have mud- will typically grow well- even without rolling in- especially if plant before a rain.....hint
