young county cranes - 01/30/15 01:06 PM

It was about time some started showing up. Hoping I can get one last hunt in Sunday morning. Notice I have two guns. Mr. Dash Rip Rock is proving himself a much better shot than me.

One more. All these were just with my phone. In a few days I might post ones I took with the camera.

Tough hunting. The Cranes fly from I think from roosting on the Brazos a few miles south east of me to a wheat field maybe a quarter mile north west of me. No wheat on our lease this year, so I'm having to decoy to a cattle pasture whatever I can off those large flocks. Dash' main job is to wake me up when birds are near so I can start calling. He can see or hear them before I can.

Love when you hear those juveniles. They come in to anything.

Thanks, Been having some trouble with both my Gold and Ithaca 10GA shotguns. I'll refurbish them over the summer. Hunting alone so figured why not take two guns. The Verona/Rizinni I set up for decoyed birds, and the Belgium Auto 5 for pass shooting. Unfortunately due to rain and too much standing water in the field, I sat this last morning out. Time to start Snipe hunting till that season ends.

I replaced the action spring in my gold. The old one was fatigued to the point it was a full 2 inches shorter than the new one. Runs like a champ now
