made duck jerky from mergansers

Gave it a try...hopeless. First 2 sticks i ate seemed ok....then the rancid fish taste hit me like a train. Dear goddd.

we shoot these things all the time down here. They swoop in fast and look like woodies so it's hard to not to.

in case anyone else had the idea...dont waste your time lol

..sorry you even tried it.....I have a inlaw in Louisiana that makes gumbo ever year with coot,mergansers and ringers and its HORRIBLE....

i have tried grilling, smoking, and now jerky. It's hopeless bro.

I don;t know what else to try. I hate the idea of just throwing them away. Maybe ill make jerky dog treats out of them lol

Not scaup! I tried it wrapped in bacon, Jalepeno and cream cheese. The B,J, and CC tasted good, the scaup tasted exactly like poop smells... YUCK!!!!!!!

I don't think iv ever cooked an animal and said that taste like poop... I mean coon wasn't even that bad

now i see why you thought those merge tasted fine...kinda makes sense now.

I use tank turds and other non-tasty ducks to feed my family. Oh and by the way, I consider my dogs family.

Mergansers aren't ducks and they definitely don't taste like duck.

Lol, they probably say all duck taste the same and you just dont know how to cook..

I just cut em into strips and smoke em, then use them for dog treats. Gotta be careful not to over do it though bc they tend to induce the runs...

What ever possessed you to make jerky out of a merganserd? I mean you can make jerky out of a skunk but that does not in any way shape or form imply it is a good idea.
