Group shooting - 01/13/15 06:50 PM
A buddy scouted a field a few weeks ago and said it had ~400 canadas by a water ditch and a couple smaller groups on the same field. Got set up the next morning with 4 dozen full bodies after getting permission and waited for them to start trickling in from the roost pond about a mile away. Apparently somebody decided it was a great idea to jump the roost pond at 8 AM so they ALL got up at once and luckily most of them started our way. With lots of birds still in the air the first group of 20 piled into the kill hole. Then a group of 15, Then 30. Then ALL of them. Best estimate is we had 150-200 within 40 yrds of us. As the last group was cupped at 25 yrds, we called it and made it R.A.I.N. We each contend that we picked out a bird on at least one of our shots but when a cloud rises its hard to not cut the darkest spot out. 3 of us dropped 21 with 9 shots and finished off cripples for 25 minutes. No way to tell if I dropped him out of the sky but I finished off one with a shiny little band on her leg. I usually like to pick em out 1 per shot but that was certainly a group I'll never forget. Finished out our limits with couple big ones and a fat monster and was home by 9:45.
