Wigeon - Should I Mount?

Wigeon - Should I Mount? - 01/12/15 01:09 AM

Shot this Wigeon this morning. Had a really cool almost completely white face. Haven't ever killed one with a face this white. Do y'all think its mount worthy? If so, throw me some recommendations for taxidermists in the DFW area. Here was our haul for the morning. It rained the whole time but the barrels stayed warmed.

If he's still in good shape and fully plumed I would. If your wanting to get a wigeon mounted that would be the one to get done.

He's in really good shape. No real visible damage. Full plumage. I already have him tucked away in the freezer. Just wanted a few opinions. Definitely one of my favorite ducks.

Looks like a storm wigeon, if it's worth it to you get him mounted, good looking bird. Pat at avian arts is the best but expensive, if bird works is taking birds they are also really good.

I would, I killed one like that a couple years ago and regret not mounting it.

Jmo, mount any bird that is of a memorable hunt, because you will look a that bird and remember that day every time. The story that goes with the mount is more important than than the perfect size/ plumage of bird.

Looks like a very mature bird, they get more white as they mature.

This is the most mature (storm) widgeon I've done

I shot one that was pretty white but was a very small bird. I figured it was immature but was a storm

This duck was about 3/4 the size of most of the other wigeons I shot this year

Pat at Avian Arts is who does my waterfowl taxidermy.

I'd mount one of those jacks instead!

My first duck was a storm widgeon. I was 7 and shot it with a dove load from a single shot 20 ga. 1000s of birds later, I have never quite been able to recreate that same feeling again. If you like that bird then mount it.

I've decided I am definitely going to mount it. Now I just have to decide between Avian Arts and Birdman Studios. I think the price will end up being about the same after having to ship to Colorado and back, compared to local drop-off and pick up with Avian.
