Young County - Sandhill Cranes

Our deer season was disappointing, so now I'm focused on sandhills. We've seen them in our wheat all fall/winter and got my sandhill permit. I made two decoys by "customizing" some pink flamingos from walmart. Does anyone have an other homemade decoys ideas for these critters? Sheets, cardboard, etc?

Forget sheets. They will have to look like Cranes. The more decoys you have, the more likely they are to work.
My dog Dash owns 64 mixed Decoys and hangs out a few miles south west of Graham. He might could be talked into a hunt some weekday morning, but he is not allowed to take his decoys unless I chaperone.

Sniper have the cranes started showing up in your area yet? They usually are thick this time of year but this has been a weird year. I have only seen a few groups from the deer blind. Heading to the same area this next weekend to try to get some deer and ribeye in the sky.

Also this is our little sillosock spread. Buddy's first crane but you can kinda see the spread. Pretty basic. About 30 sillosocks.

First ones we have seen or heard this season was a small group that came into the field on Thursday while I was deer hunting. Gave them a try Friday morning at the same spot, but they did not return.

Sniper - thanks for the generous offer, but I'm not sure I could get that approved by our lease manager (my father).

We had hundreds of them around our lease a few weeks ago but yesterday I only saw two and I didn't hear a single one.

They have been fewer than past years in Haskell County but still around. I sat and watched a good size group following a fence line almost single file no more than 25 feet off the ground while I was sitting in the blind last weekend.

I have hunted sandhills over silo socks spray painted gray.
