Need rain bad South of Bowie. Until I get adequate subsoil moisture, I won't be planting wheat.

At this point I don't think it'll make much difference, need 8.77" to come up to the 10 year average for same time frame.

The little shower we had last week was lost to evaporation by 11am next day.
I can say for a fact very little of that rain that showed up on radar during that last rain didn't actually hit the ground.
At least on none of our places.

Rhome shows 4 to 5 inches last 14 days. Many of us in Montague got less than an inch. It is very spotty. Bowie is lush and and 2 miles north dry as a bone for a few miles and then greens again for a bit. Follows the rain estimates on NWS when I was there Sunday/Monday.

It is either chicken or feathers here for rain...none or to much in a short time period with long periods of no rain this year. My fall plots are plowed and waiting on moisture. Might dry plant if it gets into late Sept with no rain and take a chance.

We have had small rains here throughout the spring and summer. Things are still somewhat alive but are going down hill fast. We have not had any what you would call a good rain for over 2 years. The stock tanks are just about dried up and the springs quit a long time ago. Getting back to what it looked like about 6 years ago when it got really bad.

Dave I've seen a few fields that look like they got seed down before last weeks rain and have germination. This in northeast Tarrant and Denton County. I am always scared of Army worms this time of year after rains. I think its a little early plus the extended forecast doesn't look good for rain.

We have had 3.5" of rain in August. I have fields plowed and almost ready to plant. Will go over them again in mid september, to kill the new growth of weeds and plant then. The unpredictable weather, makes all planting a gamble. The big growers, really put alot of money on the table. My 12 acres, is a little over a grand.

They said the extended thru Sept forecast is dryer and warmer than normal (NTX), so more of what we have had this summer.

The last rain took us out of the extreme drought monitor, but it wont last long at this rate, have several mature trees loosing leaves and much of the under growth and short brush looks almost dead here now. Feels like 2011 did when we lost many nice trees

I know we pretty much lost most of the bee forage plants as well, I have had to supplement my bees which will make pulling any honey a pretty much moot point.

It is pretty poor here in DeWitt County. Two different farm apps say that I have had a little over 13" of rain this year, but by rain gauge measure, I have only received 10.1". "Normal" rainfall should be 21.7 through today. Don't think we are going to catch up.

I'm not sure if I'm going to plant anything this year. If there isn't a dramatic change in the weather, there is no way it will work out. Not confident in any of the forecast services as all of them have really missed what is actually happening out here.
